In the wine region the result of the whole-year work is the harvest. So far weather was gracious and we hope this will go on since harvest works are continuous from now. On the 70 hectares there will be always to pick something.
This year as always we started the harvest with the picking of grapes used for rosé wine. For Weninger & Gere Rosé and for the sparkling Frici Rosé wines we have now medoc noir, pinot noir and merlot in our cellar. The grape is really tasty and fruity so we expect good rosés from 2016 vintage.
The next variety to harvest is portugieser which will be a hard work – we will do it non-stop. This is a relatively early grape which skin becomes thin when ripe, so the exact timing of harvest has great importance. We do not put it on the market immediately after fermented in the cellar. We think that a 3-4 months long, used big barrel ageing is beneficial for this variety too. The Portugieser made from the grape bunches going to the cellar will be introduced in January-February for the wine lovers.
