In the category of barrel-aged blends of international grape varieties, the 2022 Solus has won the Vince Award. With the end of the year approaching, our winery’s top wines are coming to the fore, including Solus and we are certain that it will have a place on many festive tables, not just in our own home.
The Vince Award is announced by the wine magazine in connection with the grand Vince Gala at the end of the year in twenty-two categories. In the first round, a jury of wine experts votes on each category, resulting in a shortlist of three nominees. The wine-loving public then selects their favourite from the shortlist.
In the category of barrel-aged wines made from international grape varieties, our winery’s top-of-the-range Merlot was pitted against Etyeki Kúria’s 2023 Pinot Noir and Péter Bakonyi’s 2020 Cabernet Franc. Our winery was awarded the highest gold rating, while Etyeki Kúria won silver and Péter Bakonyi won bronze. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our colleagues!
Although there are several A.GERE wines in our portfolio featuring Merlot grapes, Solus is undoubtedly the finest expression of this variety in our range. It was first produced in 2000, and since then it has only been bottled in outstanding vintages.
For Solus, we use Merlot grapes exclusively from the legendary vineyard ‘Kopár’ in the wine region. Within Kopár, there is a plot called Szarkás where we grow the Merlot grapes that go into Solus. The grapes are harvested, processed and aged separately so that, when the time comes for the final blending, we can select the finest wines from our barrels.
