We love sparkling wines because they are the perfect choice for many different occasions. We can’t think of anything better for entertaining guests than a bottle of White Frici, and it’s also perfect for enjoying with your starter. For summer afternoons or to set the mood for a cosy evening, we usually reach for a bottle of Rosé Frici. If you’re looking for something special, try serving Frici as a refreshing drink after a serious red wine.
Where does the story of Frici begin? The first bottles were created to offer as our own welcome drink at the Gere family’s hotel in Villány, and it has had a permanent place on the menu at the A.GERE Hotel and Wine Spa ever since, from breakfast through to dinner. It was named after a similar style of wine, frizzante, but since then, one of the family’s dogs has also proudly borne the name.
A.GERE White and Rosé Frici are beady wines. Of the four categories of sparkling wines classified in Hungary (beady wine, semi-sparkling wine, pét-nat and sparkling wine), beady wines have the lowest carbon dioxide content, with a pressure ranging from 1 to 2.5 bar. With Frici, we pay special attention to ensuring that the bubbles in the bottle are as creamy and delicate as possible, so before bottling, we break up the larger bubbles to create many small, caressing spheres, which enhances the pampering factor.
Both Fricis are made using early-ripening grape varieties to showcase their fresh, fruity character. When blending, it is paramount that we preserve the Frici style from vintage to vintage, so we use a combination of domestic and international grape varieties. For White Frici, we blend Királyleányka, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat Ottonel, and for Rosé Frici Menoir and Kékfrankos.
In 2019, cocktail expert Klára Koroknai created seven FriciSpritz recipes designed to take you on a new adventure. The addition of fresh fruit and spices makes our sparklers even more exciting. As well as strawberry, raspberry, pear and kiwi, there are also more unusual options such as cucumber, aperitivo and Italicus, an Italian liqueur. You can find the FriciSpritz recipes on the gerefrici.hu website.
For the biggest fans of our bubblies, a tour of the Villány vineyards on the FriciBus, a 1970 Volkswagen Transporter T2, a true icon of the era, is a real treat.
The Fricis don’t need to be served with food; all they need is a pool, a balcony, or just a carefree moment. However, if you want to serve them alongside food, try pairing them with salads, light vegetable-based dishes or risottos.
