Gere Villányi Franc Ördögárok included in the Super 12

In keeping with its tradition, the Hungarian Wine Writers’ Circle has highlighted the wines that have had the greatest impact on its members over the past year. The multi-round nomination process was confirmed by blind tastings. We are delighted to report that our 2020 Villányi Franc Ördögárok has been included in the list of Super 12 red wines.

Of our two single-vineyard Villány Franc wines, Ördögárok is the one that is presented to wine lovers after a slightly longer bottle ageing than Csillagvölgy. If you’ve ever been to Villány and visited this legendary terroir, you’ll know that Ördögárok is a natural amphitheatre where summer sunshine translates into soft, velvety tannins in the wines made from the grapes grown there.

Although all our wines are very dear to us, the recognition of a Villányi Franc, the brand of our wine community, has an added significance, as it is another step in strengthening the reputation of the Villány wine region.

The Hungarian Wine Writers Association commented on the distribution of this year’s winners in Hungary: “This year the wine writers chose the most wines from the Pannonian region (Villány, Szekszárd, Tolna and Pécs) and the Balaton region (6 wine regions around Lake Balaton) as the top wines, six from each region. The Upper Pannonian region (Sopron, Mór, Etyek, Neszmély and Pannonhalma) follows with 5 wines, followed by Tokaj with 4. The Upper Hungary region (Eger, Mátra and Bükk) is represented with 3 wines”.
