FLAVOURS, MEMORIES, VILLÁNY: A.GERE TO OPEN IN A FEW WEEKS

The A.Gere winery is opening a new restaurant in Villány. It will be a place where Swabian traditions, family memories and the flavours of the Villány wine region come together to create a unique experience. The restaurant will bring a new interior and menu to the town, as well as a story: that of the transformation the A.GERE brand has undergone in recent years. Through tradition and innovation, the family business – comprising the winery, hotel, and now restaurant – recounts the story of the past, present and future.

The concept of the new restaurant is based on regionality, seasonality and sustainability, drawing inspiration from family memories and Swabian culinary traditions.

“The generational change at the A.GERE winery has also impacted our approach to gastronomy. With our new restaurant concept, we are returning to our roots — our identity, our character and our childhood — and translating them into the language of modern gastronomy. Visitors will feel as if the Gere family is hosting them,” said Andrea Gere, the founder and owner.

The menu was created by consultant chef Richárd Farkas, who has combined family recipes and Swabian classics with a contemporary twist.

“The menu features family favourites and traditional Swabian flavours, but we’ve also included some international dishes. We’ll be serving 20-year-old balsamic vinegar that was forgotten and rediscovered, as well as unique ceramics made by young local potters and fresh sourdough bread from a new bakery. When designing the menu, I drew a lot of inspiration from Tuscan and Italian cuisine. We prepare Swabian food from a Mediterranean perspective, or Mediterranean dishes with a Swabian twist,” said consultant chef Richárd Farkas.

The result of serious research and close cooperation, the menu features prominent ingredients from the Gere estate, ensuring freshness and sustainability. Alongside lamb, chicken, Mangalica pork and duck, the menu showcases produce from local suppliers and seasonal ingredients. Representing a more progressive approach, the menu also features vegetarian and vegan dishes, such as Mecsek porcini mushroom ‘risotto’ made with Hungarian premium rice and stuffed into pickled grape leaves. All dishes are, of course, accompanied by wines from the winery’s cellar, which have been selected with great expertise to complete the gastronomic experience.

The restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, targeting a variety of guests, from the Swabian lunch menu for backpackers to the MAG tasting menu, the restaurant’s signature dish, where you can sample the most exquisite dishes accompanied by a selection of wines.

The history of the Gere family is also brought to life by the interior. The restaurant opened in the same building where the family’s first restaurant operated. Modern elements have been added to the old floors and beams, based on the designs of interior designer Zoltán Varró.

“My goal was to design a space where anyone could come in at any time and feel at home. At the same time, I wanted the space to reflect the elegant style and philosophy of the Gere family, as well as the brand’s ability to reinvent itself. I created the Gere pattern, which features on the wallpaper and textiles, during the winery’s renovation and a monochrome version of this pattern provides a uniform visual appearance in the restaurant,” said Zoltán Varró.

A. Gere is a tribute to the past and a source of fresh impetus for the present. It is a place where the heart of Villány beats and the Gere family welcomes every guest as one of their own.
