One reason why winemaking never gets boring is the variety of vintages. No two years are the same; there are always differences in the exact timing of the seasons, the amount of rainfall, and the number of sunny or cloudy hours. These differences between vintages are reflected in the wines, because although the Villány wine region, the grape varieties we cultivate and the work we do in the vineyard and in the cellar represent a certain style, within this style the characteristics of each vintage are still noticeable, as nuances that always arouse the interest of wine lovers. Let’s take a look at the 2025 vintage!
Like all winegrowers, we were delighted to see a fair amount of rainfall in winter and spring. Although the winter was mild, there was frost in spring. However, the unique characteristics and location of our vineyards saved our plantations from frost damage.
As in recent years, summer was characterised by high temperatures and low rainfall. However, the grapes were given some respite in that there was no long, continuous heatwave this year and the temperatures cooled down at night, which promoted balanced ripening of the grapes and the development of aromas.
Like in most years, the harvest began in mid-August, on the 18th. As usual, the first grapes picked were the ones destined for our sparkling wines, Rosé and Fehér Frici. In order to preserve freshness and moderate alcohol levels it is crucial for these wines to start harvest earlier than for traditional still wines. Soon afterwards, crates containing the raw materials for our Olaszrizling, Rosé and light red wines were lined up at the cellar door. The harvest was completed on 2 October with the grapes intended for our full-bodied, premium wines.
It was an intense period, but thanks to our organization and the fact that we strive to incorporate newly acquired experience into our operations every year so that we can continue our work smoothly and precisely, we are satisfied with the results. The grapes are healthy, with excellent nutritional value and delicate aromas, and we can welcome another outstanding vintage to the cellar. The quality has exceeded our expectations, so we are confident that wine lovers will be delighted by the 2025 A.GERE wines!
