It is summer so we drink spritzer!

Spritzer is surely not the first thing what comes to the mind when thinking about Villány, but summer is summer here too, and it is hot here too. And this time a glass of ice cold spritzer comes well, either from our olaszrizling or rosé.

According to the legend in 1842 András Fáy hosted Mihály Vörösmarty and some of his friends – among them Ákos Jedlik, who invented the large-scale industry usage of soda water – in his cellar in Fót. Jedlik brought the first siphon in the world to Fáy and made the wine tempered with soda first, which he called “spritzer” after German. But Vörösmarty did not like the word, and invented “fröccs” instead of it.

Since then several types of fröccs was invented, depending on the wine-soda ratio. Starting from the classic small fröccs, big fröccs, to the “spray” which hardly seen any soda. And naturally there are alcohol-free variations too. At our winery the most popular is the olaszrizling fröccs, but rosé is  also favorite.

The most frequent fröccs-types:

Small fröccs: 1 dl wine + 1 dl soda
Big fröccs: 2 dl wine + 1 dl soda
Long step: 1 dl wine + 2 dl soda
Caretaker: 3 dl wine + 2 dl soda
Vice-caretaker: 2 dl wine + 3 dl soda
Landlord: 4 dl wine + 1 dl soda
Sport fröccs: 1 dl wine + 4 dl soda

There are fröccs after famous person and events like Gyula Krúdy (9 dl wine + 1 dl soda), the Hungary-England is naturally 6 dl wine + 3 dl soda, and in Ujházi there is the juice of leavened cucumber instead of soda. The alcohol free can be any sirup with soda in various rations, with a lot of ice, which is excellent tonic in the hot summer days.
