The wondrous grape seed

It was our Nobel-prize winning scientist, Dr. Albert Szentgyörgyi who first described the beneficial effects of grape seeds to the human body in 1936. He was the first to state that grape seeds may have the highest concentration of natural antioxidants. The GERE Attila Winery has been processing grape seeds and skin since 2010. Today this process takes place completely in the winery’s own factory using their own grapes coming from organically farmed vineyards.

The grape seeds are used to produce grape seed oil and grape seed extract. First we press the oil from the seeds, then we grind them. As whole or scrunched grape seed can not exert its beneficial effects grinding is necessary. This way the active ingredients are brought to the surface and on entering our system they can interact with our bowel system more swiftly and on a much larger surface area. All of which goes to improve the efficiency of the absorption.

Gere Attila Winery together with the University of Pécs made a research for GERE Grape seed and peel extract. The following summary was issued about the results:

“The grape seed and grape peel extract exceeds the antioxidant property of vitamin C or E many times. It became well known due to its heart-friendly and anti cancer properties but also plays role in preservation of health due to its other, many beneficial effects. Grape seed extract contains procyanidol-oligomers (PCO), also known as proantocyanidins, or as called earlier: picnogenols which likely play important role in preventing heart disease and cancer.

Grape seed either contains water- and fat-soluble components. The grape seed extract permeates through cell membrane and exerts its antioxidant effect in the whole body. It is one of those materials which can get across through the blood-brain barrier so protects the brain cells against the destructive effects of free radicals. Grape seed extract may lower the risk of apoplexy and infarct, strengthens the capillaries, enhances blood flow, alleviates the symptoms of nerve damage (numbness and buzz in the limbs) which appears as the intergrowth of diabetes.

According to many studies grape seed extract has anti cancer effect too. As antioxidants the PCO-s protects against the effects affecting the genetic material of the cells, which might play role in formation of cancer.

During our studies it was proven that the Gere grape seed and grape peel grist contains those antioxidant compounds (quercetin, malvidin, rutin, resveratrol) which are – based on literary data – the most important antioxidants of grape.

Animal studies clearly proved its blocking effect in inflammatory processes and tumor formation and also its beneficial effect in protecting the anoxic damage of heart. As a result of all these for health preservation and disease prevention the extract can be recommended for regular intake.”

Further health enhancing ingredients found in grape seeds: boron, bioflavin, vitamin P, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, and some trace elements as iron, copper, molybdenum, manganese, etc. These together with the poliphenols protect our nervous system.
